TORCH Walker(Total Contact Orthotic Restraining Custom Hybrid) combines the support and positioning of a traditional AFO with the accommodation and functionality of custom molded footwear. A triple density custom insole and a rocker bottom with SACH heel are standard features. The TORCH offers a multitude of diagnosis specific modifications and options to accommodate any complex lower extremity condition. The TORCH is fully adjustable for fluctuating edema and the Velcro/lace closure creates a perfect fit every time. This 100% custom device can accommodate any situation and is a superior alternative to the CROW Walker. Increased patient compliance translates into better outcomes. Finally. Finally. Finally. Drew Shoes has released two NEW men's sandals with removable footbed for spring/summer 2013. As with our women's line of sandals, we offer two options for the men's sandals. Option 1 is sandal only with standard insole(ULTRON footbed) and Option 2 is a sandal with a true custom foot orthotic. Let's face it, footwear compliance is hard to enforce with patient's so why not offer them an option they will actually wear during the warmer months and continue their orthotic therapy. New Product Release Easy Out Orthotic Ribbon

ComfortFit's newest product release will have your patient's thanking you! Our Easy Out pull-out ribbon allows patients to quickly and easily remove orthotics from their shoes. Althought this can be used in any type of shoe, it is particuarly helpful with boots, cleats or any shoe with a deep foot bed. Older patients or patients suffering from back, spine or hip pain will easily be able to remove their orthotics for use in other shoes. If you would like to add this no cost feature to your orthotics, mark this option on our new custom orthotic prescription form (under Additions/Modifications). Update on the Richie Brace Ultra Brace and Medicare Coding Changes DME MAC Jurisdiction C News Ankle-Foot Orthoses/Knee-Ankle-Foot Orthoses LCD related Policy Article - Revised- The related Policy Article for the Ankle-Foot Orthosis/Knee-Ankle-Foot Orthosis is being revised. The Policy Article with an effective date of January 1, 2013 included Coding Guidelines for AFOs that included a height requirement. The height requirement is being removed. The effective date for the revised Policy Article is for dates of service on or after January 1, 2013. These do not have to reach the height of the head of the fibula. Richie Brace Medicare Change - Effective NOW

Effective January 1, 2013 Medicare will begin to enforce a new definition of custom ankle-foot orthoses. To meet the new Medicare requirements Dr. Richie has announced that their new Richie Brace Ultra is now available and meets all new Medicare guidelines for AFO design. The new Richie Brace Ultra will be available by the end of December and “Upgrade Kits” will be here in our lab and ready for any braces that you may have that have not been dispensed by the end of the year.

How this change affects you:

1.      Details of the new definition are on Dr. Richie’s announcement letter that we mailed to all  of our customers in late December.

2.      All Richie Braces that are dispensed by December 31, 2012 are fine as is and no further action is required

3.      If you dispense a Richie Brace to a Medicare patient after January 1, 2013 you will need to send it back to ComfortFit for installation of the “Upgrade Kit with Pre Tibial shell”. There is a small cost for the upgrade kit.

4.      Going forward, for all Medicare patients you will need to order the new Richie Brace Ultra. You will be required to use the STS Mid Leg casting sock for ALL Richie Brace Ultra orders (call ComfortFit for your sock requirements).
